I Was Pushed Out Of My Comfort Zone For Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Period Drama

Richa Chadha, who will appear in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's web series 'Heeramandi,' has revealed that she was "stretched out of her comfort zone" while working on the project.

Richa Chadha, who will appear in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's web series 'Heeramandi,' has revealed that she was "stretched out of her comfort zone" while working on the project.

"Sanjay sir is a visionary, magician, and storyteller," the actress said. As a performer, I've never felt so far out of my comfort zone. So many times on set, the director tells me, 'aap to kar hi logi (this is a piece of cake for you), you were so great in this film, that film." However, she stated that it is not as simple as it appears because everyone is constantly evolving.

"Honestly, I feel like saying that was ten years ago, because I am not the same person I was even a year ago," she continued. I've changed, I've grown. I am a director's actor, and I enjoy being stretched to my full potential. I enjoy being challenged until my throat is dry and I get nauseated from nervousness. As a result, I enjoyed working with Sanjay sir because he values collaboration. He is not easily fooled and has high standards."

'Heeramandi' is her second collaboration with Bhansali, the first being 'Goliyon Ki Rasleela - Ram Leela,' which has been in the works for nearly a decade.

"I'd rather work with a taskmaster who holds himself to a high standard than a director who coddles me but makes a shit film. It is always an honour to be associated with SLB and his project in any capacity. And I consider myself fortunate to have had that opportunity twice, the first time with Goliyon Ki Rasleela - Ram Leela. However, Heeramandi will always be a special place because it was one of many firsts. You will see," she added.

'Heeramandi,' set in pre-independence India, is based on the lives of three generations of Heeramandi district courtesans.

Sonakshi Sinha, Sharmin Sehgal, and Manisha Koirala also star in the series, which will be released on Netflix.
