Congress Leaders Attack PM Modi with Criticism

Following his speech in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has come under blistering criticism from the Congress party. The opposition leaders expressed their dissatisfaction with PM Modi for skipping the house debate on the Adani-Hindenburg report.

Prithviraj Chavan, the leader of the Congress, posed a number of inquiries about Prime Minister Modi in his most recent speech to the upper house of parliament. He stated: "The stock market is in freefall, and the general public is worried about their investments in SBI and LIC. The Prime Minister spent the most of his speech criticising Congress rather than responding to these inquiries."

"The prime minister is not responding to questions as expected. In both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, he remained silent over Adani. What role did he have inside the Adani Group? What role did the BJP-led administration play in Adani's ascent? Again, there is no response to any of these charges "he added.

He went on to say that both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha were disappointed with PM Modi's speech. He went on to emphasise the duties of a PM and said that he could not avoid responsibility.

In addition to criticising the BJP, he added, "As India is being maligned around the world, there is something dark in pulses. The opposition's job is to raise concerns; we are not to blame if you (the BJP) are offended."

Congress responds to the BJP

The Congress leaders anticipated that PM Modi will speak specifically about the Adani controversy after Congressman Rahul Gandhi poked fun at him and the BJP.

On Thursday, while PM Modi was speaking to the Rajya Sabha, Congress posted to Twitter, saying, "India eagerly anticipated PM Modi's speech on the Adani scam, one of the largest frauds in the nation. But as per usual, our PM said nothing about his friend Adani. And we are all aware of what he said! And around it goes."

Bhupesh Baghel, the chief minister of Chhattisgarh, slammed PM Modi's speech in the Rajya Sabha by saying, "Why won't PM respond to questions on scams? There is proof that caused his friend, who was ranked second among the world's richest people, to drop to position 23. Everyone withdrew their money after becoming aware of the issue. Money from the LIC and SBI was invested despite the Hindenburg exposé."
